Ethan's New Strategy

The smear campaign launched by Cerberus Security was taking its toll. Clients were hesitant, potential contracts evaporated like morning mist, and the Guardian Angels office, usually buzzing with unnerving efficiency, hummed with a tense silence. Ethan knew something had to change. He couldn't continue to fight against his staff’s…unique…approach. Trying to turn them into a conventional security firm was like trying to domesticate a pack of wolves.

He sat in his office, swirling the lukewarm remains of his coffee. Anya’s “protection” now extended to precisely measuring the temperature of his beverages. Too hot, and it was a potential burn hazard. Too cold, and it was a possible breeding ground for unseen pathogens. He sighed. He missed the days of haphazardly microwaving day-old coffee in the break room.

The problem wasn’t their loyalty. God knew, he was drowning in it. The problem was the…excess. Mark Olsen's near-death experience, the stalker's "accident" at the gala… these weren’t isolated incidents, but rather the result of a deeply ingrained philosophy. Eliminate the threat, no matter the cost.

He ran a hand through his hair, staring at the cityscape sprawling outside his window. He couldn’t condone violence, but he also couldn’t ignore the fact that Anya, Ben, and Klaus possessed skills that were… undeniably effective. If he could just find a way to channel their talents, to redirect their protective instincts towards a more…strategic, less…criminal direction…

A knock on the door. Anya, naturally.

"Ethan," she said, her voice devoid of inflection. "I have reviewed the current threat matrix. Cerberus Security is proving to be a significant variable. Their actions require immediate and decisive countermeasures."

“I know, Anya,” Ethan said, trying to sound more confident than he felt. "That's what I've been thinking about. I have a plan."

He explained his new strategy. He wouldn’t try to suppress their instincts. Instead, he'd guide them. He'd provide them with the information, the context, and the targets, but he’d also establish clear boundaries. No more near-death experiences. No more "accidents." The focus would be on discrediting Cerberus, disrupting their operations, and protecting their clients through…alternative methods.

Anya listened impassively, her dark eyes fixed on him. When he finished, she simply nodded. "I understand. Strategic neutralization. Collateral damage minimized."

"Exactly," Ethan said, relieved. Maybe, just maybe, this could work.

He called Ben and Klaus into the office. Ben, as always, was charming, his smile radiating genuine warmth… or perhaps a calculated level of sincerity. Klaus remained a stoic mountain of muscle, his presence both reassuring and slightly terrifying.

Ethan reiterated his plan. Ben grinned, his eyes twinkling. "A strategic offensive? I like it. We can play them at their own game, only…smarter."

Klaus simply nodded, a barely perceptible inclination of his head. It was the equivalent of a standing ovation from him.

The first test came sooner than expected. A new potential client, a tech startup developing a revolutionary AI, contacted Guardian Angels for security. They’d also received a quote from Cerberus Security.

Ethan knew this was a crucial opportunity to prove that his new strategy could work. He instructed Ben to gather as much information as possible on Cerberus's proposal and their tactics.

Ben delivered in spades. He uncovered evidence that Cerberus was planning to use scare tactics to inflate their fees, suggesting a higher threat level than actually existed. They were also attempting to plant negative press stories about the startup to pressure them into choosing Cerberus.

Ethan felt a surge of anger. Veronica’s tactics were reprehensible. He decided to use Ben's information to turn the tables.

He met with the CEO of the startup, a young, idealistic woman named Sarah Chen. He presented her with Ben’s findings, outlining Cerberus's manipulative strategies. He then laid out Guardian Angels' approach: a comprehensive security plan focused on proactive threat mitigation, not fear-mongering.

Sarah was impressed. She appreciated Ethan’s honesty and the detailed, pragmatic nature of his proposal. She signed the contract.

But the real challenge was yet to come. Ethan knew Cerberus wouldn't take the loss lying down. He instructed Anya to prepare for retaliatory action.

A few days later, Sarah Chen called Ethan in a panic. A series of threatening emails had been sent to her and her team, referencing their personal lives and hinting at potential physical harm. She suspected Cerberus was behind it.

Ethan immediately mobilized his team. He instructed Ben to trace the emails and identify the source. Anya, meanwhile, coordinated a comprehensive security sweep of Sarah's home and office. Klaus, as always, remained a silent sentinel, his presence radiating an aura of unwavering protection.

Ben quickly traced the emails to a server located in a remote part of Eastern Europe. He also discovered that Cerberus had hired a freelance hacker to gather personal information on Sarah and her team.

Ethan was furious. This was beyond acceptable. He decided it was time to send a message to Veronica.

He instructed Ben to feed the hacker false information, leading him on a wild goose chase. Meanwhile, Anya and Klaus discreetly gathered intelligence on Cerberus's operations, identifying their weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Using the information gleaned from Ben, Anya and Klaus orchestrated a series of…unfortunate…incidents for Cerberus.

First, they exposed Cerberus's unethical business practices to the media, leaking information about their manipulative tactics and inflated fees. The resulting negative publicity was devastating.

Next, they targeted Cerberus's recruiting efforts, planting false rumors about the company's financial instability and toxic work environment. Potential recruits began to withdraw their applications.

Finally, they subtly disrupted Cerberus's security operations, causing a series of minor, but embarrassing, failures. A client's alarm system mysteriously malfunctioned, a delivery truck carrying valuable equipment was delayed, and a security guard accidentally locked himself inside a restroom.

The message was clear: Guardian Angels was not to be trifled with.

Veronica was furious. She called Ethan, her voice dripping with venom. "You think you can play these games with me, Hayes? You're playing with fire."

"I'm just returning the favor, Veronica," Ethan said, his voice calm and controlled. "You started this. I'm just finishing it."

He hung up the phone, a grim satisfaction settling over him. He had successfully defended his client, protected his company, and sent a clear message to his rival. And he had done it without resorting to violence or illegal activity…well, mostly.

He knew this was just the beginning. Veronica wouldn't back down easily. But he was ready. He had a team of fiercely loyal, if slightly unhinged, professionals by his side. And he had a new strategy: to outsmart his enemies, protect his clients, and minimize the collateral damage.

As he looked out the window at the city, he realized something else had changed. He wasn't just a fired tech support specialist anymore. He was a CEO, a leader, and, whether he liked it or not, an Accidental Alpha. And he was starting to find his footing. The prospect was both terrifying and exhilarating. He still longed for the days of quiet coding and instant noodles, but a flicker of something new, something akin to…purpose, sparked within him. He had a company to run, people to protect, and a rival to defeat. And he was determined to succeed, even if it meant embracing the madness that surrounded him.

He heard a soft knock on his door again. It was Anya, holding a freshly brewed cup of coffee. “Temperature optimal, Ethan,” she said, handing it to him. “And I’ve added a slight amount of ethically sourced Sumatran Mandheling. It contains antioxidants known to enhance cognitive function.”

Ethan took a sip. It was actually pretty good. Maybe, just maybe, this whole Accidental Alpha thing wouldn’t be so bad after all. He just needed to keep a close eye on those “ethically sourced” beans. You never knew what Anya considered “ethical.”
