A Bamboo Basket on the Head

Clara was surprised, but then burst into laughter. She pinched Susie's little nose and said, "You're so clever!"

Susie put her hands on her hips proudly and said, "Of course I am!"

Martin smiled and looked indulgently at Clara and Susie, as did his brothers.

Susie picked up a handful of turkey shrimp crackers and stuffed them into Clara's mouth. "Mom, try it!"

Clara said, "I can't reach it... huh?"

She could taste it! It turned out that the shrimp crackers that Susie grabbed magically transformed, allowing her to taste them.

"It's delicious!" Clara's eyes sparkled.

Susie then picked up a small cake and shoved it into Clara's mouth. "Mom, try this cake!"

Before Clara could finish eating, Susie scooped up a spoonful of peanuts and said, "Ah... open your mouth, Mom."

As soon as she finished feeding her the peanuts, Susie picked up a fruit and stuffed it into Clara's mouth.

She just kept feeding her mother everything!

Clara coughed, and Susie quickly picked up a glass of wine and said, "Mom, drink this!"

Clara almost choked to death but managed to swallow it.

She was speechless and said, "Susie, you..."

But then she saw Susie tilt her little head and fall asleep in Martin's arms, still holding the wine glass.

As always, she fell asleep in seconds, and her soft little hand still held the glass.

Clara remained silent.

Martin helplessly looked at Susie and laid her down. Ryan took off his T-shirt and covered Susie with it, worried about the night's dampness.

Michael asked worriedly, "Is it okay to sleep like this? There might be some dew at night."

David quietly brought over a bamboo basket that he had just used to decorate with snacks. He placed it over Susie's head like a hood.

The bamboo basket was a flat one that was chosen because they needed to fit a lot of snacks, and Jonathan had even picked out the biggest one.

For now, it can be called a bamboo basket...

The bamboo basket looked like a small umbrella, blocking Susie's head.

"That should be okay," said David.

Everyone was speechless.

David, "What's wrong?"

Clara looked at Susie, whose head was covered by a bamboo basket, and her mouth twitched.

"David, could you get something to prop it up?"

"Um..."

Michael handed over a slipper, "Use this."

The brothers widened their eyes, "Go away!"

Clara laughed until her face was stiff, "Michael, can you be meaner? If you use that slipper to prop it up and it falls on Susie's face, you'll smell your stinky feet!"

Michael was embarrassed, "My feet don't stink..."

Martin extended his leg and let Susie lean against him, propping the basket on his leg.

"Let's do it like this for now! We'll take her back when we leave."

Clara nodded, took a deep breath, and sighed, "Ah, the smell of this wine!"

Susie didn't sleep very soundly and hit the bamboo basket to the side with a bang, so Martin picked her up.

After a while, Ryan took Susie from Martin's arms, and then David took her.

The uncles took turns holding Susie so carefully, unwilling to let her go, even after they finished all the wine and snacks.

How can they bear to part when they meet again?

They only wish that the night could be longer, and the moon could stay in the sky a little longer...

Finally, after finishing all the wine and snacks, the siblings lay on the roof, reluctant to leave, chatting aimlessly.

Even if there were thousands of stars in the sky the next day, they could not match the bright moon tonight, and they would never see each other again...

In the dim corner of the staircase, leaning against a slender figure.

Kellen silently watched.

The girl smiled with sparkling eyes and talked animatedly about her childhood memories.

Although she had the face of a gentle lady, there was a mischievous gleam in her eyes.

It turned out that Susie's personality mostly came from Clara.

Before, Clara was just a beautiful image in a photo to Kellen, the mother of his little pup.

Now that she had "come alive" in his eyes, Kellen remembered her.

That's great.

Kellen glanced at the drunk Susie who had fallen asleep and finally dispelled the idea of picking her up. He didn't want to disturb the Murray family's gathering and quietly left.

Gradually approaching dawn, everyone fell asleep without realizing it.

Susie, who was curled up in Ryan's arms, turned over and spread out her hands and feet, snoring like a little piggy.

The bamboo basket slipped off Martin's leg and spun around, covering Susie's head.

The sky was just beginning to brighten, revealing a hint of pale light, and Mrs. Alana woke up. "Ah, I'm getting old, I don't sleep much anymore." Mrs. Alana looked at Mr. Craig, who was sleeping soundly, and took the opportunity to kick him with her foot.

Mr. Craig rolled over and continued sleeping.

His sleep has always been regular, lying down at ten o'clock at night and falling asleep when he says so.

When the alarm clock rang at half past six in the morning, he got up immediately without any pause.

Mrs. Alana looked at the time, it was only six o'clock, still early.

She got up, put on her clothes, and habitually went to Susie's room, quietly opening the door to take a look.

Usually at this time, she always checks to see if the little one has kicked off the covers.

The room had air conditioning on, but it was still a bit chilly in the morning.

Regardless of whether Susie was really cold, Mrs. Alana just felt that she would be cold... As a result, when she looked, Susie was gone!

Mrs. Alana's heart skipped a beat and she panicked, "Susie's gone??" She quickly went to open Lucy's room door.

Lucy was also fast asleep, and Susie wasn't there.

Could she have gone to Zion and Wade's room? Mrs. Alana searched through several children's rooms, but still didn't find Susie! She hurried to find Martin, but oh my goodness, Martin was also missing!

After walking down several rooms, everyone... had disappeared? Mrs. Alana was really panicked this time.

She returned to the room and urgently shook Mr. Craig, "Get up, hurry up!"

Mr. Craig was sound asleep, rolled over, and even pulled up the blanket, but didn't wake up.

Mrs. Alana cursed in anger, "Sleep, sleep, sleep, that's all you know! Susie is missing, do you know that!"

Unexpectedly, Mr. Craig suddenly opened his eyes and sat up, "What?! Susie's gone?!"

Mrs. Alana remained silent.

She scolded and searched for Susie anxiously in various places.

On the third-floor study, there was none, nor in the various guest rooms.

On the fourth floor, there was none in the family theater, billiard table, or under the table.

On the fifth-floor terrace and sunroom, there was none.

Mrs. Alana suddenly looked up and saw five or six figures lying on the roof in various positions.

Among them, who else could the smallest figure be but Susie?!

The little one had a bamboo basket on her head...

Mrs. Alana was immediately furious. How could she bring a child to spend the night on the roof?!

Without giving her a blanket or quilt, she covered her with a bamboo basket - on her head?!

What if she catches a cold or a fever on such a foggy night?

What if she accidentally slips through the gap in the roof railing while turning over?

Isn't it the responsibility of the adults to take care of the child who doesn't know any better?

Mrs. Alana was so angry that she demonstrated her agility by climbing up to the roof of the sunroom with a makeshift ladder like an old monkey.

Mr. Craig had just arrived and couldn't help but open his mouth in shock.

This, this, this... is his wife, who has been paralyzed for years and only recently started to walk again?
